We read every one of them, sorted every candidate by category, and cross-checked the pattern against three years of published closing-rank history. Here is what a realistic General, OBC, SC and ST cut-off looks like this year — and what to do if your score sits below it.

The short version. 36,268 Assam-domicile candidates appear on DME Assam's provisional NEET UG 2026 merit list; 18,419 cleared the national qualifying floor. Cross-referencing three years of published Assam state-quota closing-rank history against this year's actual applicant pool, a realistic estimate for where the state quota closes this year is: General around 495–505 marks, OBC/MOBC-NCL around 420 marks, SC around 410–415 marks, ST (combined Hills and Plains) roughly 340–390 marks. These are estimates built from trend analysis and this year's real data — not an official DME Assam cutoff, which has not been published.

Two things worth sitting with. First: clearing the national qualifying floor is not the same as being competitive for a seat — barely half of everyone who appeared even cleared it, and the seats that matter close far above that floor, as the table below shows. Second: a small number of additional rows (fewer than 300 across all categories) carry a PwBD or PwD marker with their own separate, lower closing points — we've kept the main table to the five broad categories DME Assam itself lists first.

Seat figures are compiled from multiple independent, currently-published sources and represent the expected 2026 total — DME Assam's own official Round 1 seat matrix, category-wise, is published separately closer to counselling and can differ from this. Assam runs no private medical colleges; every MBBS seat in the state is government, AIIMS, or ESIC.
On the same day DME Assam published the provisional merit list, the Government of Assam gazetted a full rewrite of Schedule-III of the MBBS/BDS Admission Rules 2017 — Notification No. MER.290222/548, published in the Assam Gazette Extraordinary No. 387. This is the actual legal reservation structure behind every category on this page, not an estimate. Here it is, exactly as gazetted.

This explains a pattern in our own data. Look back at the applicant table above — OBC/MOBC-NCL is Assam's single largest reserved-category pool at 7,451 candidates, and 27% is a noticeably larger reservation than most other states carry for this category. The two facts line up. ST is split into Hills and Plains at the reservation level too (10% and 5% respectively), which is exactly why we could not give you one blended ST cut-off earlier on this page — the gazette itself treats them as two separate pools with two separate percentages.
Six specific communities have their own fixed seat counts sitting inside the OBC/MOBC 27%, not on top of it. A candidate from one of these communities needs a certificate specifying that exact community by name, not just a generic OBC/MOBC certificate.

If a candidate under Ex-Servicemen, Freedom Fighter, Extremist Violence or Martyr quota also belongs to a reserved category (ST/SC/OBC-MOBC/EWS), they are adjusted against their own category first; the special-quota seat opens as Unreserved only if no suitable candidate is available. Sports Quota merit is decided by an eight-tier medal hierarchy from Olympic medals down to State Games medals, with NEET-UG PCB marks as the tiebreaker — and the candidate must have won at least a State-level medal within the three years before the entrance exam.
A cut-off is not something you can read straight off a merit list. It is the rank at which seats actually ran out last time, and that depends on how many candidates in each category, how many seats, and how many people who were offered a seat actually took it. We used a two-step approach rather than guess.
Step one — we looked at how the Assam state quota's last closing rank has actually moved over the past three years: roughly AIR 69,230 for General in 2024, AIR 180,259 to 250,625 for OBC/MOBC-NCL across 2023–2024, AIR 193,800 to 229,252 for SC across 2024–2025, and a clear multi-year trend upward in every category, consistent with more candidates and, this cycle, an easier paper. From that trend, a reasonable expected closing rank for 2026 lands around AIR 90,000–92,000 for General, roughly AIR 225,000 for OBC, AIR 240,000–245,000 for SC, and a wide AIR 300,000 (Plains) to AIR 440,000 (Hills) range for ST.
Step two, and this is the part nobody else has done — we took those projected 2026 rank figures and matched them against the actual scores of real candidates at those exact ranks in this year's Assam applicant pool, from the provisional list itself. That conversion is what turns “closes around All India Rank 91,000” into “closes around 499 marks,” because rank-to-marks only means something once you have this year's real distribution, not an assumption carried over from a different year's paper.
Say plainly what this is not. This is not DME Assam's official cutoff. It is not a guarantee. Counselling outcomes depend on choice-filling behaviour, how many candidates from outside Assam get added to the merit list under the category-inclusion window that just opened, how many offered seats are actually accepted versus vacated, and decisions DME Assam has not published yet. Treat every number on this page as a working estimate to plan around, not a promise to bank your family's decision on.

We would rather tell you this plainly now than have you spend the next month refreshing a portal for a seat that was never realistically going to come. If your score sits meaningfully below your category's estimated range above, an Assam government MBBS seat through state quota this year is unlikely. That is not a judgement on you — the paper was easier this cycle, more people cleared it, and the ranks moved up for everyone at once.
What it does mean is that the fortnight ahead is better spent looking at what your actual number opens, rather than waiting on a number it likely won't reach. That could be BDS or BAMS, which qualify at a meaningfully lower floor. It could be MBBS through management quota in a state where seats are still being allotted. It could be the 15% All India Quota, where your Assam category doesn't apply but your raw rank might land somewhere useful. None of these are consolation prizes — they are real medical degrees, and for a lot of families they turn out to be the better fit once the fees and the five years are actually laid out side by side.
We are not going to tell you your score is fine when the data says otherwise, and we are not going to push you toward a private seat you haven't asked about. 36,268, according to our own count of every row in the provisional list DME Assam published on 5 August 2026. That is everyone who marked Assam as their state and appeared for the Re-NEET on 21 June 2026, including candidates who did not clear the national qualifying floor. Of those 36,268, 18,419 actually cleared it — 213 marks for General and EWS, 177 for OBC/MOBC-NCL, SC and ST.
Based on how the General category's closing rank has moved over 2023 to 2025 (Assam State Quota closed at AIR 69,230 in 2024, per published historical data) and applying that same trend to the actual 2026 Assam applicant pool we analysed, the General category state quota is likely to close somewhere around All India Rank 90,000 to 92,000 — which lines up with roughly 495 to 505 marks in this year's pool. This is an estimate built from trend analysis, not an official cutoff, and DME Assam has not published one.
Using the same method — historical closing-rank trend applied to this year's real applicant numbers — OBC/MOBC-NCL looks likely to close near AIR 225,000, roughly 420 marks. SC near AIR 240,000 to 245,000, roughly 410 to 415 marks. Per the Assam Gazette reservation schedule dated 5 August 2026, OBC/MOBC gets 27% of state quota seats, SC gets 7%. ST is the category to read most carefully, because the same gazette reserves 10% of state quota for ST(Plains) and a separate 5% for ST(Hills), which close at very different points — ST(P) has historically closed far earlier than ST(H). Our estimate treats ST as one combined band, roughly 340 to 390 marks, and you should treat that range as wide rather than precise for this reason.
No, and this is worth knowing. Assam's admission rules carry additional reservation categories beyond the four broad ones — Koch-Rajbongshi, Tai-Ahom, Motak, Chutia, Moran, Char Area, Tea Garden Labourer (TGL/Ex-TGL) for both Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, Government School quota, Freedom Fighter, Sports, Ex-Serviceman, and more, each with its own closing rank. If one of these applies to you specifically, the broad category estimates on this page are not the number to anchor on — ask us and we'll look at your specific category.
Genuinely worth thinking through rather than assuming the door is shut. A NEET UG 2026 score below the likely Assam state quota range can still open BDS, BAMS, BHMS, or MBBS through management quota in private colleges in states like West Bengal, Karnataka or Gujarat, or the 15% All India Quota where competition works differently.
